Chris Christy, Senior Partner


A third generation railroader, H. Chris Christy began his railroad career in Memphis, TN, as a machinist apprentice for the Illinois Central Railroad. After serving a four-year apprenticeship, he was promoted to journeyman machinist performing various duties within the machinist craft, including Federal Railroad Administration Locomotive inspections. 

After 10 years of railroad employment and completion of his bachelors and masters degrees in business administration, Mr. Christy entered full-time law school at Memphis State University graduating in 1984. Since then, Mr. Christy has confined his legal practice to the representation of railroad employees sustaining injuries on duty. He began his legal career in 1983 with Jones & Granger.

As managing partner of the office of Jones, Granger, Tramuto, Christy & Halstead from 1998-2009, Mr. Christy was appointed legal counsel for prestigious trade organizations such as:

  • International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers 
  • International Association of Sheet Metal Workers
  • Brotherhood Railway Carmen
  • Transportation Communications Union
  • International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

In his 30 years of legal practice, Mr. Christy has represented hundreds of current and former railroad employees for various injuries ranging from traumatic spine and brain injuries to repetitive stress disorders.

Mr. Christy has recovered in excess of $500 million dollars in jury verdicts and settlements on behalf of railroad workers nationwide.

Mr. Christy and his staff recovered the first multi-million-dollar verdict on behalf of a Machinist suffering from cumulative trauma disorder. Mr. Christy continues his appointments with the IAMAW, TCU, BRC, SMW, BMWE, BLET, IBEW,IBB, NCF&O, and BRS.

James Ferguson


James R. Ferguson is a partner at the law office of Christy & Ferguson. Originally from Houston, Texas, Mr. Ferguson graduated from Henderson State University Magna Cum Laude and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law.  He is licensed to practice law in the States of Arkansas and Montana as well as federal district courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas, the Southern District of Illinois, and the District of Nebraska, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, . Mr. Ferguson joined the Law Office of H. Chris Christy directly out of law School in 2012, becoming a named partner in 2022. 

Since graduation, Mr. Ferguson has confined his legal practice to the representation of railroad employees sustaining injuries on duty and to those that have been illegally disciplined or terminated under the whistleblower regulations of the Federal Railroad Safety Act.  He is approved and nationally appointed legal counsel for the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees as well as the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers through his affiliation with the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys.

Mr. Ferguson has been instrumental in securing many of the firm’s jury verdicts and settlements since becoming an attorney with the firm. 

C. E. Sorey, II, of Counsel


Mr. Sorey has practiced in all State and Federal Courts within the State of Mississippi. In addition, Mr. Sorey has practiced in the following States by way of Pro hac vice: Alabama (both Federal and State), Texas State Courts, New Mexico State Courts, Tennessee (both Federal and State), and Louisiana (both Federal and State).

In 1980, Mr. Sorey was admitted to the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Sorey then participated in three civil cases before the United States Supreme Court on Original Jurisdiction. In each case the U. S. Supreme Court appointed a special Master to hear the case at trial. These cases involved the State boundaries between the State of Mississippi and the State of Arkansas and two cases between the State of Mississippi and the State of Louisiana. In all three of the cases, Mr. Sorey was appointed as Special Assistant Mississippi Attorney General. Each of the cases were affirmed by the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Sorey also served as city attorney for the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi from 1979 to 1984. During this time he worked with the Municipal Code Corporation to rewrite the Charter and Code of Ordinances for the City of Vicksburg.
